Welcome to Muffin Mania’s Blog!
In 1982, my Grandmother, Cathy Prange, and her sister, Joan Pauli, self-published a little book of muffin recipes titled “Muffin Mania”. It was an instant success, selling over 500,000 copies worldwide. Both my Grandmother and her sister received fan mail from all over the world, including Saudi Arabia and Germany. The cookbook includes 63 muffin recipes. These amazing recipes made Muffin Mania the number one selling cookbook in the 80s. Although the book went out of print in 1997, my Grandmother, whose home address appeared in the first edition, continued to receive letters from devoted fans, begging for a new copy of the cookbook to replace their worn out originals.
My family talked about re-publishing the book for many years, but it wasn’t until my cousin Martha Prange, who realized used copies of Muffin Mania (originally sold for $5.95) were being sold for $100 and more on Amazon.com, decided to make the re-publishing a reality. As part of her entrepreneurial work term at Dalhousie in 2008, Martha decided to follow in my Grandmothers footsteps. The republishing was a great success and my Grandmother was thrilled! Although my Grandmothers sister, Joan, died in 1992, my Grandmother was thrilled about their cookbook resurfacing.
My cousin’s re-published version of the cookbook contained all the original recipes. I decided to create this blog as an opportunity to bless the Internet with our family’s favourite recipes; these recipes have only ever appeared in print so by sharing them online, I hope fans can re-discover their favourite recipes, while also pleasing those who are discovering Muffin Mania for the first time. Not only will I be sharing the original recipes from Muffin Mania but I will also upload photos, videos and secret family tips for making these muffins even more amazing! To keep up with the times, I will also be sure to include tips on how to “trim” the muffins calories, in order to make lower-fat options.
